"What's An Airplane Doing At A Boat Show?"

Wednesday, 23 September 2009 02:59 by Cirrus Aircraft

Today's AvWeb reports:  Getting lots of attention from potential new pilots, hopefully. Mark Bennett, New England regional sales rep for Cirrus Aircraft, parked himself outside the entrance to the Newport (R.I.) International Boat Show last weekend, one of the largest events of its kind in the country. Bennett brought along a full-scale mockup of a Cirrus SR-22 and invited all comers to climb aboard and check it out. The mock-up is an actual aircraft off the production line, only lacking an engine. The wings have been altered to make them easily removable, so the mock-up can travel up and down the East Coast on a truck, helping the sales staff troll for new customers at a variety of non-standard venues. "This airplane has been to boat shows, car dealer's showrooms, in hotel lobbies, you name it," says Bennett. All in all, the airplane and its fully equipped cockpit host about 25,000 potential buyers per year.

"We don't expect to actually make sales at these events," Bennett said. "But we are gathering leads, and we take interested prospects up for a flight [in Bennett's fully functional Cirrus, parked at a nearby airport]. And we're introducing new people to the idea of using a general aviation aircraft for business and for personal use." Last week's visit to Newport was the second year that Cirrus has exhibited at the show, Bennett said. "Last year, the most-asked question was, 'What's an airplane doing at a boat show?' But this year, we're hearing less of that. I think people are kind of starting to get it."

CIRRUS PERSPECTIVE BY GARMIN™ INTRODUCES NEW STANDARD FEATURES

Wednesday, 16 September 2009 02:59 by Cirrus Aircraft

Two exciting new standard features are now available with the Cirrus Perspective by Garmin™ avionics suite; the AOPA Directory and automatic database synchronization.

The AOPA Directory allows an owner access to useful airport information (primarily in the U.S.) that includes:
• Transportation options such as rental cars, taxis, limousines, FBO courtesy cars
• Airport restaurants
• Lodging
• FBO services like fuel availability, hours of operation, maintenance facilities, airport fees

The directory makes trip planning easier whether it be a spontaneous weekend away, or a sudden change in business plans – and it’s exclusive to Cirrus Perspective. With the new automatic database synchronization the Cirrus Perspective system will be able to automatically check all databases stored on the bottom Secure Digital cards on both the MFD and PFD. When a card is found to be out of date, the current cycle of each database will be transferred. This allows for a download of the databases on only one card, and for future versions to be downloaded before the effective date. The system will then automatically update when a new database becomes effective, eliminating the hassle of updating while in a middle of a trip.

Only Cirrus gives you all these features and more, right at your fingertips.

For existing Cirrus Perspective owners looking to acquire these features, contact your nearest authorized service center to request an upgrade.  A minimal fee may apply.

To see all the features available on the Cirrus Perspective system, see our websiteContact your local Sales Director to request a demonstration.

FLYING 2.0 WITH CIRRUS CEO, BRENT WOUTERS

Friday, 11 September 2009 02:32 by Cirrus Aircraft

This year for Labor Day weekend, I flew my wife and two boys in a Cirrus aircraft to our family reunion in southern Missouri (Bolivar/Lake Pomme de Terre). Just five days before the reunion was to start, the location was changed to here from Kansas City; an additional 150 miles further away for all the families. Of course we were traveling the furthest by a long shot, but it meant the least inconvenience to us. Because the additional 150 miles to us was less than an hour more in the Cirrus, and two hours or more to family members who were driving, despite their living much closer.

In fact, at a duration of three hours flying, it took us less time to get there than all other family members who were as close as Kansas City. On Monday, everyone left Bolivar at noon, but my family and I were the first to arrive home despite living over 700 nm away.

If it weren't for the Cirrus, my wife and I would have had to take more time enroute, and we'd have had to leave early to get my boys back in time for the first day of school. Instead, we were able to spend the extra time with family. A perfect Labor Day weekend!

CIRRUS ANNOUNCES 2009 PRICING FOR REVOLUTIONARY VISION SF50 PERSONAL JET

Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:00 by Cirrus Aircraft

Today Cirrus Aircraft  announced a maximum initial price of $1.39 million USD for owners of current production reservations for its single-engine Vision Personal Jet. This price will be for a Vision Jet delivered in a very well-equipped configuration analogous to the current GTS model in the best-selling SR22 piston family of airplanes from Cirrus Aircraft.

"Cirrus is uniquely positioned to understand materials costs and the costs of manufacturing of the Vision Jet by way of our experience in building and delivering nearly 5,000 SR20 and SR22 aircraft," said Cirrus Aircraft President and CEO Brent Wouters. "With our pricing announcement today, we have rewarded those who partnered with us since the beginning of the Vision Jet development program by creating substantial and immediate value in their production position reservations. At the same time, Vision Jet pricing for new reservations is equally compelling given the revolutionary performance and capability demonstrated by the V1 flight test aircraft to date."

For customers reserving a Vision Jet production position between now and December 31, 2009 with a non-refundable $100,000 deposit, the maximum purchase price for a Vision Jet will be $1.55 million. Beginning January 1, 2010, a new Vision Jet production position reservation will be secured with a non-refundable $50,000 deposit with a maximum purchase price of $1.72 million. All prices are in 2009 dollars.

Wouters concluded, "Our commitment to the Vision Jet is absolute and unequivocal. Cirrus has the personnel, leadership and conviction to bring the Vision Jet to serial production as quickly as possible. Others share our view as several third parties have expressed an interest in investing in Cirrus Aircraft and the Vision Jet program specifically. While only time will tell whether those inquiries are fruitful, we will keep the program moving forward with internal resources in the meantime. This same incremental funding approach brought the SR20, and later, the SR22 aircraft to market and out of that effort was born the best-selling four-place piston airplane for now seven years running."
