KNOWN ISSUE WITH RECENT BATCH OF HYDRAULIC LIFTERS

Friday, 30 October 2009 05:35 by Cirrus Aircraft

Background
TCM has notified Cirrus Aircraft of an issue with a recent batch of hydraulic lifters impacting the following, intake and exhaust lifters on IO-360 series and intake lifters on IO-550 engines. Some parts from a batch have exhibited abnormal wear at low engine time. Since the worn parts can adversely affect engine performance, TCM has recommended affected planes not be flown. We expect a Mandatory Service Bulletin to be issued today (October 30, 2009), and an Airworthiness Directive is likely to follow. Cirrus has already taken the action to contact the few individual owners that were impacted by this situation.

Effectivity
TCM is confident of the start and stop serial numbers in production. Production engines had the (now suspect) intake lifters installed starting with June 2009 builds, and exhaust lifters beginning September 2009. Again, only a handful of Cirrus owners with recently new production aircraft and engines are affected by this condition, and the mojority have already been contacted by Cirrus and TCM. If you have NOT been contacted by Cirrus regarding this issue by the close of business Friday, October 30, 2009, your airplane is likely NOT Affected. However, owners that had spare parts installed since this summer may be impacted.  Details on effectivity will be in the forthcoming service bulletin.

Part availability
All suspect parts at TCM and distributors have been quarantined. TCM is pursuing multiple parallel paths meet field and production demands. There will be some short term shortages.

Corrective action
The suspect parts will be replaced in the field. Work will take 3-4 hours and can be done by an A&P. Visit TCM's website for additional information. You may also call TCM's customer service deparment at 1.888.826.5465, or Cirrus Customer Help Desk at 1.800.921.2737 or email us at fieldservice@cirrusaircraft.com .

Cirrus Aircraft will keep all affected parties up to date with the most current information as it becomes available.

Pilots and Paws

Tuesday, 13 October 2009 05:10 by Cirrus Aircraft

Here’s another example of how general aviation is helping business, and charity organizations, make the world a little better. Scott Gross, Cirrus owner and pilot, has found diverse benefits with his Cirrus:

I am in the real estate business and also an investor in charge of our family limited partnership. Our Cirrus is used to visit presently owned sites as well as a tool for checking out new opportunities near or far from our Ohio base operations. We have also been fortunate to add pleasure flying to our busy business use with college shopping on some of these trips and going to other family functions, but that’s not all we use our Cirrus for.

The PILOT and PAWS rescue group has been instrumental in helping move animals, pets and adoptables around the country whether the need be for rescues, overnight foster care or shelter. The benefits of air transport over ground transport often means the difference between life and death for thousands of dogs and cats. And this is all done through the work of our unselfish and unpaid volunteers. Being an animal lover doesn't hurt either.

For move details or information go to our website www.pilotsnpaws.org or please feel free to call me at 330-865-5600 (Ohio time) between the hours of 8am and 5pm.
Scott Gross
